Even more excited for disc golf now after I spent a good chunk of time yesterday working on the colours for the image above to go on the front of the shirt, and the design for the back. Pretty happy with how it is turning out. I hope other people like it! I love seeing people wearing last year's. I can't decide if July 12th is now "only 2 weeks away" or "still 2 weeks away." I guess I also can't decide between being an optimist and a pessimist (or realist as Jenna might say...).

Time to clean out the collection of things Coudal has posted recently that I've kept unread for one reason or another...

Original Pac-Man sketches. Neat!

The Evolution of the Hipster 2000-2009. I have the star tattoo's to prove my connection to the 2000-2001 Emo and Emo Redux eras, and apparently am now stuck in 2006 with the mountain man. Glad I never fell for the Ashton...

Movie poster font quiz on Mental Floss. I got 100%. This one is way easier than others as it lists all the titles that will come up. I didn't realize that until title 3... (I went back & changed one after I realized it...)

USB Typewriter. Great concept.

Subway slide. Awesome.

Alt/1977. Clever fake ads. Extremely well designed. Extremely. I want that pocket hi-fi.

Thomas Allen pulp paperbacks. I have seen these before, but don't think I've shared them on here. They are amazing.

George Lucas 1983 & 2005. Or, why the second Star Wars trilogy sucked.

A history of musicians who have demanded that Republican's stop playing their songs. David Byrne, John Mellencamp, Tom Petty, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN? Why did the republicans ever think these people would be on board?

Lego Printer. Neat!

That was a tempting purchase I left behind this weekend. A glass from the 1982 Knoxville World's Fair, with the Sunsphere likely represented by that red ball in the top left? Nice. Thank you Simpsons for making me care about things I never would have cared about otherwise.

P.S. The Simpsons episode I'm talking about? Gotta be one of my top 5. For sure.

If you didn't already know this, sometimes my girl Jenna send me some cool stuff. Here's a selection of items she sent me recently:

Michelangelo Nintendo Remix. Impressive. Tragic. Cute.

Larger paper mache animal and human heads. Weird stuff. Check out more crazy stuff from the whole catalog.

Shoes that make everyone the same height. I would not need those shoes, as I am 2 meters tall with regular shoes on. My license says 198cm, which always makes me sad. Why didn't I just say I was 200cm!? It sounds so much cooler.
------
Here's a shoe that is definitely on my 'to get' list. Some day. Still kicking myself for a pair I found on sale in my size about 2 years ago and didn't pick up.

Such a classic. Love it. Gotta love A Time To Get for featuring it. Great taste over on that blog.

President Obama looks at awesome things. Well done! I gotta go with the Tardis as my favourite, just because the Tardis is awesome, but they're pretty much all great.

If Fonts Were Dogs. Been thinking about dogs a lot lately. Not ready for one yet, but maybe someday. Looking at adorable puppies on kijiji is both great and terrible.
------
Hobbit houses in real life. How long have I wanted to live in a hobbit hole (just ignore how poorly I might fit in one for a second...)? Pretty much for ever. Neat stuff.
------
Nintendo cartridge harmonica. So clever! Awesome!
------
Fixing monuments with lego. Clever & awesome as well. Neat stuff.

Hey Marc, speaking of things you might in a beautiful dream, check this out. OH MAN could not be more correct. I want to eat that. Of course, the chance of dying immediately would be high, but it might be worth it... Except I just realized that it looks like it's made with cheese slices. Missed opportunity on that one.
------
While looking for something else today, I discovered these shoes, and instantly became obsessed with the idea of them. Neat stuff. I'd like to try on a pair. Buying them seems impractical obviously, but just to try them on could be pretty cool.

Pretty much the best thing that publishing companies keep doing is releasing new and impressive covers for books I already own. Sometimes, a cover redesign is actually pretty terrible (also, covers based on the movie based on the book), but much more often lately, I have been impressed by companies' choices to work with great designers and illustrators. This whole series really rises to the occasion in that regard.

Seriously, this kind of thing makes me want to re-purchase books I already own. At one point, if you had asked me what my favourite book was, I would have said White Noise, without a second's pause. It's been awhile now, and it's time for a re-read to see where it sits, but I'd so much rather read the version above than the one I currently own (actually, I probably wouldn't want to read the new version, because I wouldn't want to hurt it). I've actually been tempted for years to trade it in for this one, which was already clearly better, but this new one takes the cake!

I've been tempted by this one in store before for sure too.

And this is a book I've always questioned Jenna's ownership of, but now I want to run out and buy this version!

This one would be hard to pass up too...

This was super-exciting for me the other day. When I started into that post I was thinking "Hey, I made a packaging related show poster, I should send it in!" And then BANG, there it was, on a blog I really enjoy. Really made me feel good. Even if I'm not that proud of that poster anymore...
------
This is an impressive little piece of focused self-promotion. Seeing it inspired me in a poster I had to make recently. Not that I hadn't seen the multi-media background, colour cut out overlay before, but I kept looking at that piece and couldn't resist making this:
------
This barbershop/railway museum might be just the thing that would get me to go back to having someone else cut my hair. You know, if it wasn't in Northern Ireland...
------
Font memory game? Yes. I feel like I've seen something like this before, but I don't know where. I do believe that it was someone's self-promotional piece though.

See what I'm saying about self-promotion? Awesome stuff lately, I'm always talking about someone's work for themselves!
------
Adorable and clever pet food packaging. Seriously, adorable.
------
Here's an interesting idea that I've actually kind of thought of before. For the right price, I might consider buying one. The question is, how different is it from just having a plant in your room?
------
If anyone in Toronto can get me one of these posters, I would be super grateful. Seriously. I wonder if you can get them from the zoo? You know I like my bears...
------
After yet another purge, my pile of things to share is getting smaller. Too bad it also tends to get bigger every day or so...

No, I am not in Montreal, but you have to admit that that's a pretty amazing postcard. I really don't know what to say about it first. Okay, how about the question of who exactly wants to send or receive a post card that highlights an airport? 'Look, I'm here! But this is as far as I've gotten...' It's not like the building's are even interesting, like at LAX or something; looks like just a big sprawling building and a parking lot.

At the same time, from my personal vantage point, look at that sprawling building and parking lot! And the cars! Just the idea of making a postcard of that image is pretty awesome to me, you know? And the layout? Well! 'How should we arrange this text?' 'Let's just slap a white box over the sky and put the text in that!' 'That's a great idea!' It sure was, but if you ask me, I can only see that being the case in retrospect, looking back from now. At the time, really? (from the Canadian Design Resource)

This is a great idea. Now if anyone says 'I'll just have anything,' they can really have it! Or whatever too!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's something that's been making the blog rounds like wildfire: Font or Typeface? Good little read, and a good addition to the personal knowledge base too. I'm always happy to have newer and clearer definitions of things. I was never really too sure of what the difference was before, and now I know.

Seems like every couple of weeks or so it's someone's turn to mention the FedEx logo and it's 'hidden' secrets. Now it's my turn. Seriously, have you ever noticed it before, the beauty of the FedEx logo. I didn't until someone pointed it out to me, as I feel the need to do every time I see it. Check it out, and read an interview with the designer here.

Trips getting real close. 9 days. Super excited. Can't wait to take a break and see a thing or two. I'm a little nervous about a thing or two, but we'll deal with those when we get to them. Get ready for this thing to turn into a trip blog. I'll be hoping to post most nights from the road, hotel web access, time, and tiredness permitting.
