New Babies

As you may already know, Jenna and I brought home a new baby into our home recently. Finnegan is a Bichon/Sheltie cross, and we love him, even when he's being crazy. He starts puppy school tonight, and he can already sit, fetch, and shake a paw, so I've got high hopes for being able to teach him even more.
------
At work, my new baby is the aforementioned Art, Design & Architecture series. I've been wanting to put together something like this for awhile, and after the success of the Draplin talk I organized, John finally caved to it. I can't wait for it, 'cause it's all documentaries I'm dying to see. Lets hope other people are too, and it all turns out alright.

Most exciting to me of all is the film I'm presenting myself, Just Like Being There. As a gigposter designer myself, it was a natural fit for me to take it on. So, if you only make it out to one of the screenings, go to that one. But if you can, make it out to all of them, and buy a series pass, so your tickets are cheaper, 'cause all seats are $10 for these, whether you're a member or not.
------
In the world of BRFC, I'm working on moving into paper goods. First up are these Hello Dolly postcards. Thanks to my good friend Celene, who asked me to do some sort of Dolly art for her, these postcards are now on sale at Dots & Loops in Lunenburg, and White Elephant in Hamilton. And, of course, from me at the next Stitch 'n' Kitsch.

The plan is for this to just be a start. Greeting cards should be coming soon. But it turns out a puppy eats up a lot of time, so there may be some delays...
------
There also some new freelance babies that I should be able to share soon. Not sure what the clients' plans are, so I'll hold them back until I know what's up. I've been doing some work that I'm pretty happy with and proud of.

Busy times = no blog posts, but I wanted to update to say hi to anyone coming by from The Wall: Inside the Poster Studio's Facebook page. I couldn't be more honoured that Tom asked to feature me in both of the books he has put out recently. To look at the list of poster artists appearing in each one, and to see Bearface in there? It's a crazy feeling.

If you're interested in the work I've been doing lately, I've been keeping my Flickr account decently updated, and I've been updating my Dribbble too.

Some logo projects in the works right now, and an Art, Design & Architecture film series at the Original Princess is in the works too.

12.4.11

It's been way too long since I've updated here. I've got a lot of things on my plate lately. I did finally get around to updating my gigposters page recently, but you've probably already seen most of it here.

I've also started using Pinterest. Some of what I would usually post on here (cool images, things I want to buy, etc) has ended up being dumped over there, so if you want to check out some neat stuff, you can check out my pinterest page.

The rest of my time keeps getting filled up by various things. This weekend, for example, was yard work, some custom printing, some freelance design, and planning a workshop with Love Made.

Lots of stuff on the agenda too. This blog may move onto an actual site at some point, once I get around to making it; there's a wedding to plan (with lots of printed materials to design!); and a bike to finish building (it's at a shop to be powder coated right now! Can't wait to get it back). So all that and more is what's up around here lately. Maybe I'll have some cool links for you to peruse soon...

Interesting fact: in the last month this blog has seen a lot of Google hits from the search words Diane Lane Outsiders, and various combinations of similar things. I cannot figure out why. I know I have mentioned her before, but there are a tonne of other things that come up first when you google that. Weird.

"The First Diet Cola For Men"

I may have gotten a little of the ol' scalp sweats with my lunch today. It's not the hottest thing in the world, but Stagg's Dynamite Chili definitely has some bite. I do believe I'll be buying another can.
------
I guess this commercial came out over a year ago, but I just saw it for the first time yesterday. I feel like I should hate it, but in the end, it's totally true for me. I am a pretty big Pepsi Max advocate. All the benefits of Diet Pepsi, but it doesn't taste (entirely) like aspartame, and it has extra caffeine? Yes, please! I'll drink diet if there's nothing else, but if you ask me, aspartame is not an 'artificial sweetener,' it's a 'make things taste like aspartame-r,' and that is not a flavour I really like. You get a bit of it in Pepsi Max, but not a lot.

"Men can take anything, except the taste of diet cola."
------
This ad gives off a vaguely Addams Family vibe to me, in that it looks playful, but it also kind of makes me afraid to find out what's inside it. In the end though, I find it ridiculously cute.
------
I just upped some new posters to my Gigposters page, if you want to check them out. I feel like I'm missing some, but I can't remember what. I'll have to check later.
------
Kitchen photos should be going up on Flickr later this week if I have time, if you're interested. I'm excited to finally share!
------
Patchy post at best. Feels like that kind of week. I'm already itching for it to be over...

5.12.08

I have to say that I am really enjoying getting to create stuff for Stitch n' Kitsch. Cute and crafty is basically what I think of when I think of SnK, and that works really well for the way my head works. Up top there is a post card I created for them to promote their spring sale at their upcoming winter sale (which is December 13, by the way).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just can't believe this one. Who decided that creating that was a good idea? Really? Or, once they created it, how did they not realize it looked like it was burning and decide that selling it might not be the best idea?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I first spotted this poster the other day, I thought it was pretty great. Then I flipped over to the comments and read how it was created: "Each poster background was masked and spraypainted by hand using 2 metallic colors. The trees were drawn and the rest of the layers were created using spray paint and masking techniques that were scanned into the computer to print the vellums. The only thing that wasn't made by hand was the type."

That's pretty impressive if you ask me. I mean, I create digital files that get printed digitally. I'm already impressed by people who screen print all of their posters. But then this? Seriously Impressive.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Apparently United Visual Artists created a video for Battles' Tonto. I actually own the single for this song, and the cover art is taken from this video, but it never occurred to me that this was where the art came from. "The video consists of our documentation of the band’s marathon 11 hour performance". Impressive. (Apparently I'm impressed this morning...)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Loving this cutting board, but, like many things I've liked from House, expensive. Makes me want a woodshop so's I could create my own.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A great little explosion of colour. Don't know if this is staged, or for real, but it's pretty great regardless.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finally got some of my newer posters up on gigposters, with two more waiting to be approved. Feeling pretty good about some of this stuff lately, so I keep wanting to share.
