I don't know about you, but we've been watching a lot of Olympics around these parts. I'm glad it's almost over though, 'cause I'm getting real sick of how much filler there is in the coverage.

Obviously, a big part of any Olympics is the graphic design. This is a pretty cool little video about Olympic pictograms. I have to say though, I really don't agree with it's assertion about the two good sets since 1984. Both sets from '68 and obviously the Munich '72 set are awesome. And pretty much nothing has been good since then in my books.

Here's a nice classic Sesame Street bit, featuring some kids learning a bit about letterpress printing.

Speaking of letterpress, if you don't know much about it, there was recently a little overview of one person's printing process over on Design*Sponge.

That little feller above is either now, or will soon be, in the post, on it's way to join my merry little collection. I can't wait! New! In package! Unfortunately, I had to pay a little more than I normally would for a cub, and substantially more than the $1.49 on the package. Definitely worth it just for that "unconditionally guaranteed" line on label. So bold and confident. Strong. Like a good stapler should be.

As you may be able to guess, I do love me some vintage light fixtures, and this company appears to make some beautiful reproductions. Not that I can imagine having the money to throw around on them, but it's nice to know they're out there. Some of their coloured shades are pretty damn nice.

While at least one person I know has been geeking out over the Star Wars lego sets that are going around, there's a new development afoot that I think I can get behind: Lego Architecture. Starting with some Frank Lloyd Wright. Awesome. Can't wait to see what else comes out of that.

Finally, the best news for last: Chili's opens in Ontario. Hell yes. May have to hit that up this weekend... More locations to open by 2014 (which is a lot closer than it sounds like it should be, if you know what I mean...)

Best.Stapleroftheweekpost.Ever. Yes, I do have a favourite stapler, and yes, that stapler is the Swingline Cub Plier. So good. The saddest thing about that post? The plier up above was apparently for sale on ebay (picture stolen from stapler of the week, stolen from the seller). But now it is sold. And I didn't buy it.

Do you see how perfect/beautiful/amazing/ahhhhh! that stapler is? I would have loved to own it. At least it finally prompted me to set it up so ebay sends me notifications anytime the keywords "swingline cub" come up.

The Dieline has been posting some great stuff lately (often I skim packaging blogs, cause a lot of it deals with wine labels and the like, which I mostly could not care for), so here's a taste of what they're bringing.

- Foxglo lightbulb packaging. So amazing! If these beautiful packages can't get people to switch to eco-friendly bulbs, I don't know what will (okay, aside from not selling any other options...). Wish I was in Europe, so I could pick up one of these boxes, just to ogle it for a couple hours.

- Pepsi (and Mountain Dew) Throwback. On the heels of the whole big crazy (ugly) Pepsi redesign, comes Pepsi throwback, using an older logo, and being a special formulation with real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. There's another logo that's popped up for it around, with a real classic logo, but I hope this more 80's version is the one that's really coming out. I hope this makes it to Canada...

- Retro-styled Cereal Boxes. Bringing 'em back! Good point that these aren't really being put out for the kids in the cereal ailse, but for the parents, but still, I'll be happy if I get to see them. Check out this Kix box! Beautiful (except that "retro t-shirt" bit tagged on there). Beautifully photographed too, looks real nice with that background colour...

Sorry for that wicked long last post. I just kept letting things pile up that I wanted to mention. And piling. And piling. If I could just get myself to post more, you'd hopefully get more stuff like this...

This here book reminds me of a nice little timewaster we once made up called the "nipple/phallus game." Basically, stuck with some friends with some time to waste, the goal is to look around your surroundings and point out things that either look like a nipple or a phallus. When it comes right down to it, you can argue that many many things in this world can look like one or the other. This book seems to embody that idea pretty well.

Definitely keeping an eye on this little gem on ebay. The shape reminds me a lot of my favourite stapler, the Swingline Cub. Definitely looks like just a knock off, but as I love that shape, I'm not arguing! Oh, and I LOVE that packaging! Definite selling point there. Hope it doesn't go for too much!

I wish this hadn't gone for so much, woulda been nice to pick up for sure. Combining my love of staplers (the Swingline Tot, so cute! With a mention of the Cub too!) with my love of letterpress (and halftones...). Awesome! But too much for my blood right now...

I've been pretty into illustrated alphabet sets lately, and this here is a beautiful set of vintage matchbooks that come together as a set. It's a little weird if you think about, since illustrated alphabets are typically kid-related, and matchbooks are typically very not kid-related, but you know, whatever. You can't argue with nice design. I especially love the fact that they're in Spanish, so instead of 'T for Turtle' you get 'G for Galapago.' Would love to see more shots, closeups of each would be nice, but just getting to see them is pretty great. Not surprisingly, I love the Owl (or Buho, if I'm reading correctly.) Thanks GrainEdit!

On a much too personal note: frustrated with my seemingly endless sinus issues, I've decided to try out "nasal lavage." It's weird, but I'm pretty happy with it so far, and excited to see if it makes things better in the long run.
